How is the course delivered?

Encourage Training College’s CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support course provides a blended approach to learning, with face-to-face training and self-paced learning components. Our expert trainers and assessors provide comprehensive support throughout the course, ensuring students are well-prepared for roles in the aged care industry. The course covers essential skills such as providing individualised support, communication, and safe work practices for direct client care. Graduates will be equipped to pursue job roles in aged, community, and residential facilities for older people, making a positive impact on the lives of others.

As a part of the enrolment process, you will complete a competency assessment to determine your existing level of relevant knowledge and skills. You will then be provided with a training plan that identifies your Cohort based on this assessment.  The amount of training and support required for each learner will vary depending on your Cohort.

Course Duration: This qualification is delivered over 35 weeks of study which includes 33 weeks of training and assessment and self-study (including 3 weeks of work placement) and 2 weeks of holidays/study break for self-paced learning and reflection; and is subject to learner’s:

  • prior knowledge, skills, and experience
  • allotted time to study every week
  • learning abilities

Expected Study Hours: Typical learners are expected to spend up to 1212 hours of study to complete the course.

How is the course structured?

All learners will be assessed through a combination of the following assessment methods:

  • Observation during on-the-job or role play/simulation
  • Questioning may include self-assessment, verbal answers, written questionnaires, activity modules or interview
  • Structured Activities may include Projects, Case studies, presentations, role play, demonstration, progressive tasks

The CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support is composed of 9 core units and 6 elective units, for a total of 15 units.

What are the entry requirements?

No entry requirements exist for this course as per the training package rules. However, Encourage Training College require that students:

  • Are 18 years or older
  • have a valid USI.
  • Participate in a course entry interview (Pre-Training Review) to determine suitability for the course and learner needs.
  • Have sufficient language, literacy, and numeracy skills, for example, to read materials relevant to the course, participate in discussions and observations and apply numerical concepts such as in relation to time management. This will be tested through an LLN assessment as part of the course entry process. Learners will need to achieve at least ACSF level 3 for reading, writing, numeracy, and oral communication to enter the course.
  • Be able to obtain a Police Check and NDIS Worker Screening Check (if required)
  • Have basic computer skills and Have access to an operating computer, laptop, tablet or smart phone to access online Learning Management Systems (LMS) and to complete assignments on time.
  • Be able to undertake a minimum of 120 hours of vocational placement within a registered and approved aged care, home and community, disability or community service facility.

 

What are the resources needed to complete the course?

To complete your course you will need to arrange access to a computer with:

  • A Computer with Internet (minimum reliable speed of 5mbps is recommended)

  • Three volunteers for role play tasks (maybe friends, family members, colleagues, etc.)
  • A Registered Aged Care Facility to complete vocational placement

Is Vocational Placement required?

Learners are required to undertake a minimum of 120 hours of vocational placement within a registered approved aged care and/or disability care facility and complete a skills workbook. Learners have anoption to:

  • Undertake placement at facilities assigned by Encourage Training College’s
  • source their own Vocational Placement providers; or
  • have Encourage Training College assist them in arranging Vocational Provider near their area

Encourage Training College will provide learners a Vocational Placement Pack that outlines all the requirements for finding a suitable Vocational Placement Provider that will facilitate the required workplace assessments and allow the learner to complete the required vocational placement hours.

 

What are the Qualification Pathways?

Learners may also consider additional training to complement their skills such as:

  • CHC43015 Certificate IV in Ageing Support – For learners to advance their career and pursue roles including Hostel Supervisor, Care Supervisor, Team Leader, and Social Programs Coordinator
  • CHC43121 Certificate IV in Disability Support – For learners to advance their career and pursue roles in disability care
